Boko Haram attacks Nigerian army

Coordinated Assault Targets Military Positions in Borno State

Suspected Boko Haram militants launched a deadly attack on a Nigerian army base and a military outpost in Borno State, killing at least 16 people, according to security sources. The assault, which occurred late Monday night, saw insurgents destroy military equipment and overrun key positions.

Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have long terrorized Nigeria’s northeast, targeting both security forces and civilians. The ongoing violence has led to tens of thousands of deaths and widespread displacement.

Insurgents Strike Army Base in Wajiroko

At approximately 2100 GMT on Monday, militants stormed an army base in Wajiroko, setting military assets ablaze. A soldier from the Wajiroko brigade confirmed that at least four soldiers were killed, while several others—including the brigade commander—were injured.

Deadly Raid on Military Outpost Near Cameroon Border

In a simultaneous attack, insurgents in light tactical vehicles raided a military outpost in Wulgo, just 12 kilometers from Cameroon’s Fotokol border town. The Cameroonian Defence Ministry reported that 12 soldiers were killed, while a dozen others sustained injuries.

According to a military source, the assault on multinational task force troops lasted from midnight until 3 a.m. on Tuesday. The attackers reportedly used drones before launching a ground offensive, seizing a large stockpile of weapons.

Casualties and Official Response

Videos circulating online show bloodied bodies, burnt patrol vehicles, and damaged buildings, though their authenticity has not been verified. The Nigerian army has yet to issue a statement, while Cameroon’s army spokesperson, Cyrille Serge Atonfack Guemo, confirmed the attack but said official casualty figures were still being determined.
