Youth Jubilee

On July 28, 2025, Rome’s Tor Vergata field buzzes with preparations for the Youth Jubilee, the biggest event of the Catholic Church’s 2025 Holy Year.

Around 500,000 young pilgrims will join a two-day vigil and Mass with Pope Leo XIV. Vatican organizer Monsignor Rino Fisichella calls it the “highlight” of the Jubilee calendar.

Impressive Stage and Facilities

A 5-meter-high stage, built by engineer Alessandro Mancini, ensures all pilgrims can see the Mass, even from afar.

The 500,000-square-meter site offers 5 million water bottles, 2,660 drinking stations, and 70 cooling mist cannons to beat the 34°C heat. Over 2,700 portable toilets, medical posts, ambulances, and 100+ surveillance cameras keep the event safe and comfortable.

Event Schedule and Activities

Starting August 2, Tor Vergata hosts music, performances, and prayer, ending with an evening vigil led by Pope Leo XIV.

Pilgrims stay overnight for a closing Mass on August 3. A 5-kilometer walk from the nearest transport hub is required, but the site’s setup supports the large crowd.

Strong Security Measures

With 4,000 Italian police and fire officers, plus support from Spain, France, and Poland, security is tight. Airspace above Tor Vergata will be closed to drones and civilian aircraft, ensuring safety for all.

Global Pilgrim Participation

The Vatican reports 68% of pilgrims come from Europe, with attendees from 146 countries, making this a truly global Catholic event.
