The authorities in central Mexico have discovered six severed heads on a road linking Puebla and Tlaxcala, two states not typically associated with cartel violence.
This gruesome discovery was made early Tuesday morning, August 19, 2025, according to local officials.
Possible Cartel Message
Local media reported that a blanket was found at the scene with a message addressed to rival gangs.
The note was allegedly signed by a group calling itself “La Barredora” (The Sweeper).
It remains unclear if this group, known to operate in Guerrero, was responsible for the killings.
Victims Identified
The local prosecutor’s office confirmed that the victims were men. An investigation has been launched, though no motive or suspect has been confirmed.
Organized Crime Links
While Puebla and Tlaxcala are not usually plagued by cartel violence, the region struggles with huachicoleo (fuel smuggling), a multibillion-dollar illegal trade.
Federal authorities have not yet commented on the killings, which comes amid President Claudia Sheinbaum’s crackdown on fentanyl trafficking.
