Israel’s Foreign Ministry swiftly rejected the report as “distorted and false.” Officials criticized the commission members as “Hamas proxies” with known antisemitic biases.
The government views the accusations as a “blood libel,” evoking painful historical parallels given Israel’s founding as a safe haven for Jews post-Holocaust. Israel insists its actions focus solely on combating Hamas militants, sparing civilians.
Urgent Calls for Global Response
Chaired by former UN human rights chief Navi Pillay, the commission has no binding authority but presses for immediate international intervention. It recommends stopping arms shipments to Israel and discouraging corporate involvement in activities that aid genocide.
Pillay warned, “When clear signs of genocide emerge, inaction amounts to complicity.” These recommendations could influence ongoing cases at the International Criminal Court or the International Court of Justice, where South Africa has filed a related genocide claim.
