Nigeria’s star forward Victor Osimhen is setting ambitious goals for his current club, Galatasaray, in the UEFA Champions League. The striker has declared his readiness to elevate the Turkish team’s status in Europe’s elite competition, insisting, “It’s time to make a statement in the most prestigious games.”

The 26-year-old forward is making his return to the Champions League wearing Galatasaray’s iconic yellow and red colors. He has rapidly become a fan favorite since making his move permanent this summer, following a successful season-long loan during the 2024/25 campaign.

Commitment to Continental Success

The Super Eagles forward confirmed his strong determination in a recent discussion. “I spoke with the president when I arrived here, and we agreed that we want to make a statement in the Champions League,” Osimhen stated.

Osimhen made clear the club’s new focus: “We’ve dominated the Turkish league for years, but now we want to show that we can compete among the best in Europe.”

The Nigerian’s drive reflects his relentless personal journey, which began from humble beginnings in Lagos. “I came from a very poor background. Olusosun shaped me. It taught me resilience,” Osimhen recalled. He ensures he visits his home community frequently to show gratitude and inspire younger children. He reminds them that if he succeeded, they can achieve their dreams too.

Inspired by Fans and Idols

That same powerful determination fuels his commitment to Galatasaray. Osimhen vividly recalled his first reception in Turkey. “When I had never seen anything like that before  thousands of fans at the airport at 3 am,” he said.

“It gives you that fire to give everything for the badge. I absolutely love this club and I’m ready to go through everything with them the good, the bad, and the ugly.”

Osimhen’s career path is often linked to his football idol, Didier Drogba, who also played for Galatasaray and achieved Champions League greatness. “In football, my hero was Drogba. I watched him and learned from how he played and lived. I tried to add his qualities to my own game,” he explained. He cited his brother as his greatest inspiration in life, teaching him perseverance and hustle.

Now, with Galatasaray aiming for European recognition, Osimhen is confident the team’s resurgence can restore the pride of Turkish football on the continental stage. “We are the biggest club in Turkey, and one of the biggest in the world. Now, we want to prove it in the Champions League,” he added.
