The Nigerian Senate has successfully passed a significant piece of education legislation. This new bill makes participation mandatory for every child across the country in three core national examinations.
These compulsory assessments are:
- The National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE)
- The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)
- The Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)
New Boards and Institutes Established
In related legislative action, the Senate approved two additional bills. These measures aim to formalize and expand different sectors of education and professional development:
- National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies: A bill was passed to formally establish this new national board.
- Chartered Institute of Training and Development of Nigeria: The Senate also passed a bill to legally establish this professional institute.
