Police in South Africa are hunting for suspects following a brutal double murder. A primary school principal and an administrative officer were gunned down on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident took place at Inxiweni Primary School in Tembisa. It has left the local education community in shock.

According to authorities, the attack occurred shortly after 5:00 PM. Staff members were inside the administration block at the time. They were preparing for a scheduled meeting.

Fatal Shooting in the Admin Block

The atmosphere turned terrifying in moments. Colleagues in a nearby office heard a sudden volley of gunshots. Immediately, they took cover to protect themselves.

The shooting eventually ceased. Staff members then emerged from their offices. Tragically, they found the 58-year-old principal and a 55-year-old administrative staff member lying in the corridor. Both had sustained gunshot wounds.

Emergency teams arrived at the scene quickly. However, they could not save the victims. Both women were declared dead on the scene.

Official Response and Investigation

Police have opened a murder investigation. As of Wednesday, no arrests have been made. Furthermore, the motive for the killing remains unknown.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Education MEC Matome Chiloane visited the school hours later. They met with shaken officials and the grieving families.

Calls for Justice

MEC Chiloane condemned the killings strongly. He expressed outrage that such violence occurred within a school.

“This is a space meant to be safe for children and educators,” Chiloane noted. “We urge the police to act swiftly.”

To assist the community, the department has deployed support teams. Counselors are currently on-site to help teachers and learners cope with the trauma.
