QUEEN

Queen Mary of Denmark has touched down in Nairobi. The monarch began a strategic three-day official visit on Tuesday night.

Her mission is clear: to deepen diplomatic ties through environmental cooperation.

A high-level delegation received the Royal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The welcoming party was led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Rebecca Miano.

This trip highlights Denmark’s growing focus on Africa. It marks Queen Mary’s second visit to the continent in just two months, following a recent diplomatic engagement in Egypt.

A Green Agenda

The Queen’s itinerary centers on sustainability and nature.

She plans to tour the Kenyan coast to inspect conservation projects. These initiatives focus on protecting endangered species.

However, the visit goes beyond wildlife. Queen Mary will also address urban environmental challenges. She is scheduled to visit landfill sites to observe Kenya’s strategies for waste management and the circular economy.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The state visit underscores a shared commitment to fighting the global climate crisis.

Copenhagen and Nairobi aim to strengthen collaboration in three key sectors:

  • Renewable Energy: Using technology for cleaner power.
  • Climate Action: Coordinating responses to global warming.
  • Environmental Protection: Safeguarding natural resources.

To conclude the visit, Queen Mary will attend a high-level meeting at the United Nations Office in Nairobi.
