Consulate

The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced a temporary suspension of operations at its primary diplomatic locations. Specifically, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed for the holiday period.

According to an official notice shared on Tuesday, the closure begins on Wednesday, December 23. It will continue through Friday, December 26, 2025. Normal business activities and diplomatic services are set to resume on Monday, December 29, 2025.

Impact on Consular Services

During this four-day period, all routine consular services will be unavailable. This includes visa processing, American Citizen Services, and other non-emergency appointments.

What travelers and applicants need to know:

  • Advance Planning: Members of the public should schedule their visits and submit applications well in advance.
  • Service Resumption: All scheduled operations will return to regular hours on the following Monday.
  • Affected Locations: This notice applies to the main diplomatic hubs in both the federal capital and the commercial center.

Official Communication

The U.S. Mission shared this update via its official X (formerly Twitter) account. While the announcement clearly defined the timeline, the mission did not provide a specific reason for the break. However, the dates align with the peak of the December festive season.

“The US Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Wednesday, December 23, through Friday, December 26, 2025. We will resume normal work operations on Monday, December 29, 2025.”
