India Greenlights $8.78 Billion Military Tech Expansion

December 29, 2025

2 minutes read

In a major move to modernize its armed forces, India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved several high-value procurement proposals on Monday, December 29, 2025.

The total value of the cleared projects reaches 790 billion rupees (approximately $8.78 billion), aimed at boosting the operational capabilities of the nation’s Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Strategic Focus on Technology and Communication

The approved funds are earmarked for the acquisition of advanced military hardware. This procurement highlights a strategic shift toward upgrading communication and surveillance systems across all three service branches.

Key equipment included in the approval:

  • Advanced Radar Systems: To enhance aerial and maritime surveillance.
  • Secure Radio Communications: For modernized, encrypted field communications.
  • Automatic Take-off and Landing Recording Systems: To improve safety and data tracking for military aircraft.

Impact on the Armed Forces

The Ministry of Defence noted that these approvals are vital for maintaining a technological edge in the region. By integrating these systems, the Indian military aims to streamline its logistics and tactical execution.

1. Indian Army

The focus for the ground forces remains on improving field connectivity through new radio technology and localized radar support for border monitoring.

2. Indian Navy & Air Force

For the maritime and aerial wings, the inclusion of automatic take-off and landing recording systems represents a significant step in digitizing flight operations. This tech will assist in mission debriefing and operational safety.

Fiscal and Industrial Outlook

At a cost of 790 billion rupees, this represents one of the final major defense approvals of 2025. Analysts suggest that these cleared proposals will likely prioritize domestic manufacturing to align with national self-reliance goals, though the specific vendors have yet to be finalized.
