IBEDC: Daily 3-Hour Power Cuts for 22 Ibadan Areas

January 6, 2026

IBEDC

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has announced scheduled power outages for 22 communities in Ibadan, Oyo State. These daily disruptions are necessary to accommodate ongoing road construction projects in the region.

Specifically, the relocation of power infrastructure along Foodco Road and Idi Isin requires the temporary shutdown of several electrical assets. Consequently, residents in the affected areas should prepare for a temporary loss of service.

Affected Neighborhoods in Ibadan

The IBEDC has identified 22 specific neighborhoods that will experience these service interruptions. For clarity, the affected areas are categorized below:

  • Residential & GRA Zones: Alalubosa GRA, Ogunkola, Akinola Maja, Sunrise, and Post Housing.
  • Educational & Institutional Sites: Lead City, Lead British, Forestry College, FRIN, and the Museum.
  • Healthcare & Security Facilities: Nursing Home, Commissionaire, and Police Headquarters.
  • Business & Social Hubs: AMI Complex, ODUA, Apampa, The Heavens, Blossom Heritage, Polo Club, Baale Akintayo, Eleventh House, and House 18.

Outage Schedule and Timeline

The IBEDC has established a specific timeline to minimize the impact on local residents while ensuring the safety of construction crews.

  • Daily Duration: Approximately three hours.
  • Execution Dates: Monday, January 5, to Friday, January 9, 2026.
  • Primary Cause: The relocation of power lines and equipment to facilitate road expansion.

Broader Context: National Power Grid Stability

These localized outages occur during a period of wider instability for the Nigerian power sector. Recently, on December 29, 2025, the national grid suffered a total collapse. This incident led to a significant drop in power generation nationwide.

While the current outages in Ibadan are strictly due to local infrastructure upgrades, they contribute to the ongoing operational challenges facing the region’s energy supply.
