Heavy rains, landslides claim 37 lives in northern Ethiopia

Severe rains and landslides have claimed the lives of 37 people in northern Ethiopia, causing widespread devastation in the region. The affected areas, primarily in the Amhara and Tigray regions, have been hit hard by the heavy rainfall, which triggered landslides and floods, destroying homes and infrastructure.

Local authorities confirmed that rescue efforts are ongoing, but challenging conditions have made it difficult to reach some of the worst-hit areas. Many families have been displaced, and several communities remain cut off due to damaged roads and bridges.

The Ethiopian government has dispatched emergency response teams to assist with search and rescue operations and provide immediate relief to the victims. Humanitarian organizations are also working to deliver food, medical supplies, and shelter to those affected.

The country, already facing other crises such as conflict and food insecurity, now contends with the added burden of natural disasters. The government has called for urgent assistance from the international community to help with the recovery efforts and to support the affected population in rebuilding their lives.

With more rain expected in the coming days, authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and take precautions to protect themselves and their families.
