Bola Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved free train services nationwide for Nigerians to celebrate the Yuletide season. This initiative, announced on Monday, will run for 15 days, from December 20, 2024, to January 3, 2025.

The gesture, part of the administration’s efforts to ease transportation challenges during the festive period, aims to provide relief for citizens traveling across the country to reunite with family and loved ones. The announcement was made through the Federal Ministry of Transportation, highlighting that the service will be available across major train routes operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

Routes Covered

The free train rides will be available on major railway corridors, including:

  • Lagos-Ibadan
  • Warri-Itakpe
  • Abuja-Kaduna

The NRC clarified that both standard gauge and narrow gauge train services will be operational during this period to accommodate the expected surge in passenger traffic.

Tinubu’s Commitment to Citizens’ Welfare

President Tinubu’s approval of this initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of Nigerians, especially during festive seasons. The decision comes amidst rising transportation costs and economic challenges, offering a reprieve to citizens who rely heavily on affordable means of travel during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

This marks a continuation of similar measures introduced in the past by the federal government to make transportation accessible and affordable for Nigerians during festive period.

The announcement has been met with widespread praise from citizens, who see it as a thoughtful intervention during the holidays. Passengers have been encouraged to arrive early at train stations to secure seats, as the service is expected to witness high demand.

The government has also urged Nigerians to take advantage of the initiative while maintaining order and safety at train stations.

This free train service reflects the administration’s broader efforts to mitigate the effects of economic hardships and promote unity among Nigerians during the festive period.
