Ayra Starr

Sarah Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, widely known as Ayra Starr, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, becoming the first Nigerian female artist to surpass 1 billion total views on YouTube.

The Mavin Records star’s global hit single Rush has been a major driver, amassing over 458 million views alone.

This achievement places the 22-year-old, affectionately called “Sabi Girl,” among Nigerian music giants like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Rema, Omah Lay, Kizz Daniel, Tekno, P-Square, Flavour, and Fireboy DML, who have also crossed the 1 billion YouTube views threshold.

The Global Success of “Rush”

Ayra Starr’s Grammy-nominated track Rush has been a cornerstone of her international success, racking up over 450 million YouTube views.

The song’s infectious energy and universal appeal earned it a Platinum Certification in the United Kingdom in May 2025, surpassing 600,000 combined sales and streams. It also marked her first entry into the UK Official Top 100, solidifying her status as a global Afrobeats sensation.

Rush has also secured certifications in multiple markets:

  • Diamond in France
  • Platinum in Canada and New Zealand
  • 3× Platinum in Nigeria

Ayra Starr’s Digital Dominance

Since her debut in 2021, Ayra Starr has rapidly expanded her digital presence. As of May 2025, she ranks among the most-followed African artists on Spotify, with over 4.8 million followers.

Her strategic use of streaming platforms, viral appeal among Gen Z audiences, and strong label support from Mavin Records have fueled her meteoric rise.

Ayra’s success reflects a broader shift in African music, where digital virality, fan engagement, and platform-specific strategies are reshaping artist careers.

Her milestone underscores the growing global appetite for Afrobeats and sets a new benchmark for female artists from the continent.

Redefining African Music’s Global Reach

Ayra Starr’s achievement is more than a streaming milestone; it highlights the evolving economics of African music. By leveraging YouTube, Spotify, and other platforms, she has become a trailblazer for next-generation artists, particularly female musicians.

Her success signals a new era where digital platforms are as critical as traditional media for global recognition.

As Afrobeats continues to captivate audiences worldwide, Ayra Starr is at the forefront of this cultural movement, proving that African artists can achieve unprecedented heights through innovation and fan connection.
