The Cameroonian government announced new measures on Wednesday to guard against a potential resurgence of COVID-19 cases, which have been noted in several European, Middle Eastern, and African nations.
In a statement issued by the Minister of Health, it was revealed that all travelers arriving from abroad will be required to complete identification forms at airports. Testing protocols are also being reinstated, with an initial focus on those returning from the pilgrimage to Mecca.
Additionally, measures previously enacted during the peak of COVID-19 cases are being reinstated. These include mandatory mask-wearing for individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms, promoting hand hygiene, and ensuring regular disinfection of communal areas.
The government emphasized its readiness to detect and manage cases effectively, asserting that free healthcare will be accessible across the country.
Cameroon recorded its first COVID-19 case in March 2020. According to the Ministry of Public Health, the pandemic has resulted in 1,974 fatalities out of more than 120,000 confirmed infections within the country.
