Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has announced a strategic partnership with Vinmar Group.
Vinmar is a global petrochemicals distribution company, and is to help bring Dangote polypropylene to international markets.
The collaboration between these two companies was revealed on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the Facility’s Launch Event.
This therefore marks a significant step for the $2 billion petrochemical plant in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, which began producing polypropylene in March 2025.
A Game-Changer for Nigeria’s Petrochemical Industry
The Lagos facility, has a total capacity of 830,000 metric tonnes per year across two units (500,000 mt/year and 330,000 mt/year), is poised to become Africa’s largest polypropylene production site.
Fatima Aliko Dangote, an executive director at Dangote Group, during the facility’s launch event said, “We’re pleased to partner Vinmar to introduce Dangote Polypropylene to the global markets”.
The plant, which produces 77 grades of polypropylene in 25kg bags, initially targeted Nigeria’s local market but now aims to transform the country into a net exporter.
Nigeria currently imports 90% of its annual polypropylene needs, totaling 250,000 metric tonnes.
The Dangote facility is designed to meet this demand and generate surplus for export, reducing reliance on imports and boosting Nigeria’s economy.
Strategic Partnership with Vinmar
The exclusive agreement with Vinmar’s Premier Product Marketing LLC allows Dangote to tap into global markets outside Nigeria and Africa, positioning its polypropylene as a competitive player worldwide.
Vinmar’s expertise in international distribution is expected to amplify the reach of Dangote’s 77 polypropylene grades, used in products ranging from packaging to automotive parts.
Africa’s Largest Polypropylene Hub
Once its fully operational, the Ibeju-Lekki plant will produce enough polypropylene to meet Nigeria’s demand and export to international markets.
This is a milestone for Africa’s industrial landscape, as the facility’s scale and advanced technology position it to compete with global petrochemical giants.
The partnership with Vinmar will ensure efficient market access, as this collaboration signals Nigeria’s growing influence in the global petrochemical sector.
