Nollywood actor Taye Arimoro has officially threatened legal action against his colleague, actress and producer Peggy Ovire.
Arimoro is demanding a public apology and N100 million in compensation following an alleged assault that occurred on a film set.
The escalating dispute has drawn significant attention within the industry, centering on accusations of unlawful restraint, physical assault, and breach of fundamental rights.
The Incident: A Dispute Over Contract Hours
The altercation reportedly began when Arimoro attempted to leave the movie location after his contracted working hours had allegedly expired. According to his account, he had completed his schedule for the day and sought to exit the premises.
However, reports indicate that the situation turned volatile when members of Ovire’s production team allegedly blocked his vehicle from leaving. Arimoro claims that the crew went a step further by deflating his car tires to physically prevent his departure.
In the aftermath, the actor shared a viral video displaying visible injuries, including bleeding gums and a busted lip, which he cited as proof of the physical assault he endured at the hands of Ovire and her crew.
Conflicting Accounts and CCTV Evidence
Peggy Ovire has vehemently denied these allegations. In her defense, she portrayed Arimoro as the aggressor, claiming that he turned violent after being asked to stay back to complete his scenes. Ovire alleged that Arimoro assaulted two of her crew members, including her driver, whom she claimed suffered a bleeding ear during the scuffle.
Despite her denials, the narrative took a turn when CCTV footage from the set surfaced online. The video appeared to contradict parts of Ovire’s account, capturing a moment where she removed her wig—a gesture widely interpreted by viewers as preparation for a physical confrontation with Arimoro.
Legal Action and Demands
Arimoro’s legal team has now served Ovire with a “Pre-Action Notice.” The lawyers contend that the actor’s fundamental rights to personal liberty, freedom of movement, and dignity were violated during the standoff.
The legal correspondence outlines demands for damages covering:
-
Emotional trauma
-
Psychological stress
-
Loss of earnings
In an Instagram post captioning the legal notice, Arimoro wrote: “@peggyovire, PRE-ACTION NOTICE. In light of the incident referenced in this correspondence, you have been served. Kindly forward all responses to my solicitors as indicated.”
Ovire has been given a strict seven-day ultimatum to respond to the demands. Failure to comply could result in further legal proceedings to enforce the claims for the N100 million compensation and public apology.
