Sotheby’s Arts

On October 1, 2025, Sotheby’s presented six iconic paintings, valued at $150 million, at a museum on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi.

These masterpieces, from the 19th and 20th centuries, mark a first-time showcase in the Middle East.

Renowned Artists

The collection features works by Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Paul Gauguin, Edvard Munch, René Magritte, and Camille Pissarro.

Three of the six paintings have not been publicly displayed in over 50 years, making the exhibit a rare event.

Expert Insights

Julian Dawes, Sotheby’s Head of Impressionist and Modern Art in New York, described the pieces as representing “the pinnacle of art history.” He predicted the works could fetch far beyond their estimated value at auction.

Global Tour

After Abu Dhabi, the paintings will travel to London and Paris for further exhibitions. They will then return to New York for auctions starting November 17, 2025.

Why It Matters

This display highlights the global appeal of these masterpieces and underscores Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a cultural hub, showcasing art rarely seen in the region.

What’s Next

The auctions in November 2025 are expected to draw significant interest, potentially setting new records for these historic works.
