Lagos was set ablaze with excitement as Move Afrika 2025, the global concert series organized by Global Citizen, made its highly anticipated stop in Nigeria. The event, held in Lagos, featured stellar performances from international icon John Legend and Nigerian sensation Simi, alongside other talented artists.

The Move Afrika Tour, an initiative aimed at empowering African youth through music, activism, and economic opportunities, expanded to Nigeria this year, marking a major milestone in the global movement.

A Night of Music and Activism

The Lagos concert was a fusion of music and social impact, with thousands of fans gathering to witness thrilling live performances. John Legend, the multi-award-winning singer and activist, delivered an emotional and inspiring set, performing hits like All of Me and Glory, while emphasizing the importance of social justice and economic equity.

Nigeria’s own Simi captivated the crowd with her soulful vocals, performing fan-favorite songs that had the audience singing along. Other top African artists also graced the stage, ensuring a night of unforgettable performances and cultural celebration.

Why Lagos?

The choice of Lagos as a host city was widely praised, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu hailing it as a testament to Nigeria’s vibrant creative industry and global influence. “Lagos is the heartbeat of Africa’s music and entertainment scene, and we are honored to be part of this groundbreaking movement,” he stated.

Officials from Global Citizen highlighted that the Move Afrika initiative aims to not only entertain but also drive conversations around youth empowerment, climate change, and poverty eradication. The tour is designed to create sustainable opportunities for African creatives and entrepreneurs, ensuring a lasting impact beyond the concert stage.

The Impact of Move Afrika

Since its launch, Move Afrika has been more than just a music festival—it has served as a platform for social change, job creation, and economic empowerment. In Lagos, the event featured workshops, mentorship programs, and discussions on youth entrepreneurship, reinforcing its mission to inspire the next generation of African leaders.

With Lagos now a key stop on the Move Afrika map, industry experts believe this initiative will further cement Nigeria’s position as a cultural powerhouse in the global music and entertainment industry.

As the tour continues to empower African voices and bring global attention to the continent’s rich musical heritage, fans eagerly anticipate what’s next for Move Afrika and its mission to drive change through music and activism.
