Women Filmmakers Leading Nollywood’s Box Office Boom

Labake Olododo follows the trend of record-breaking female-led productions in Nollywood.

  • Eniola Ajao’s Ajakaju: Beasts of Two Worlds grossed over ₦200 million in 2024.
  • Wumi Toriola’s Queen Lateefah surpassed expectations, earning a staggering ₦350 million, cementing its place as one of Nollywood’s most successful films.
  • Other notable hits, like Ajosepo, also crossed the ₦200 million mark, proving the commercial power of female-driven narratives.

The success of Labake Olododo underscores a major shift in Nollywood, where women are not just shaping the industry—they are leading it.

Iyabo Ojo: A Powerhouse in Nollywood

Producer Iyabo Ojo is no stranger to success. With over 150 acting credits and more than 14 produced films, she has solidified her place as one of Nollywood’s most influential figures.

She began her acting career in 1998 with the English-language film Satanic before transitioning into Yoruba cinema with Baba Darijinwon (2002). By 2004, she had ventured into film production, delivering hits like Bolutife and Ololufe.

Her latest project, Labake Olododo, continues her legacy of blending cultural heritage with mainstream entertainment, proving that audiences crave indigenous stories with high production value.

The Future of Nollywood is Female

With strategic marketing, compelling storytelling, and star-studded casts, Nollywood’s leading women are redefining commercial success.

Labake Olododo’s impressive opening weekend further cements the fact that female-led productions are shaping the future of Nigerian cinema, and the industry has never been more exciting.
