Simi and daughter

Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, has made a heartfelt plea to her fans to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke.”

The nickname stems from her 2020 hit song Duduke, which captured the hearts of many during her pregnancy.

Simi released the emotional track Duduke in 2020 while expecting her first child with her husband, Adekunle Gold.

The song’s soulful lyrics and melody resonated deeply with fans, becoming an anthem tied to her pregnancy journey.

However after the couple welcomed their daughter, Adejare, in June 2020, fans affectionately began calling her “Duduke” in reference to the song.

Simi Clarifies the Meaning of ‘Duduke’

In a recent interview with VJ Adams, Simi addressed the nickname, expressing her discomfort with its use for her daughter.

“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat, duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum,” she explained.

Simi clarified that “Duduke” is an onomatopoeic expression meant to mimic the sound of a heartbeat, reflecting the emotions she felt during her pregnancy.

She emphasized that it was never intended as a name for her child.

A Lighthearted Request to Fans

While acknowledging the fans’ affection, Simi gently urged them to respect her daughter’s real name, Adejare.

“Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react,” she said, showing her appreciation for the love her fans have shown.

The singer’s request highlights her desire to separate her artistry from her personal life, ensuring her daughter’s identity is distinct from her musical legacy.

As Simi continues to make waves in the Nigerian music industry, her fans are likely to honor her wishes while continuing to celebrate her heartfelt music.
