Ebola Outbreak

A four-year-old child has died from Ebola in Uganda, marking the second fatality in the ongoing outbreak, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed.

The total number of confirmed cases has now risen to 10 since the country declared the outbreak in January following the death of a male nurse at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.

Ebola Outbreak Timeline

On February 18, Uganda’s health ministry announced that all eight Ebola patients had been discharged, but at least 265 individuals remain under quarantine in Kampala and two other cities as a precautionary measure.

The latest case was reported at Mulago Hospital, Uganda’s sole national referral center for Ebola cases, where the four-and-a-half-year-old child tragically passed away on Tuesday, according to the WHO Uganda office.

Ebola Transmission and Symptoms

Ebola is a highly infectious and often fatal disease, transmitted through contact with infected bodily fluids or tissue. Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Internal and external bleeding in severe cases

The Ugandan government and health authorities are intensifying efforts to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread of the virus.

Ongoing Containment Measures

Health officials are closely monitoring contacts, reinforcing infection control measures, and urging the public to report any symptoms immediately.

The WHO and Uganda’s health ministry continue to work together to manage the outbreak and minimize the risk of further transmission.
