On September 26, 2025, Oba Rashidi Ladoja was crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East, Oyo State.

The former governor’s ascension marks a significant moment in Ibadan’s rich cultural history.

Traditional Rites

Ladoja received the sacred Akoko leaf at Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, a key step in the Olubadan coronation process.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is set to present him with the staff and instrument of office at Mapo Hall, formalizing his role.

Succession Path

Ladoja became the Olubadan-designate after the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on July 7, 2025. His crowning follows Ibadan’s traditional succession system, rooted in cultural heritage.

Cultural Significance

The coronation, celebrated across Ibadan, reinforces the city’s deep traditions. Ladoja’s leadership is expected to strengthen community unity and preserve Ibadanland’s legacy.
