In a somber announcement, former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones.

This revelation was made known in a statement released by his personal office on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

This health revelation comes months after Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 U.S. presidential race, a move prompted by growing concerns about his age and physical condition.

Biden’s Health Diagnosis

The statement detailed that Biden sought medical attention last week due to worsening urinary symptoms, which led to the discovery of a prostate nodule.

Subsequent tests confirmed a high-grade prostate cancer, classified with a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), indicating significant aggression.

The cancer has spread to his bones, but medical professionals note that it remains hormone-sensitive, offering viable treatment pathways.

The former President and his family are currently consulting with physicians to determine the best course of action.

This diagnosis adds a new layer to the challenges faced by the 82-year-old former president, who has been a prominent figure in American politics for decades.

Withdrawal from the 2024 Presidential Race

Biden’s health concerns were a significant factor in his decision to exit the 2024 presidential race on July 21, 2024.

His withdrawal followed a turbulent period marked by a faltering performance during a June 2024 debate against Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Observers noted Biden’s struggles with clarity and physical stamina, which fueled widespread speculation about his fitness to lead.

The debate performance triggered a wave of concern within the Democratic Party. By mid-July, more than 30 senior Democrats, alongside influential media outlets, publicly urged Biden to step aside, citing the need for a stronger candidate to face Trump.

Initially resistant, Biden eventually announced his withdrawal, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

Reflecting on his decision to step down, Biden described it as a painful but necessary choice, emphasizing his commitment to serving out his term as president until January 20, 2025.

Biden’s Legacy and Ongoing Challenges

Joe Biden’s presidency was defined by efforts to address domestic and international challenges, including economic recovery and foreign policy initiatives.

However, his health struggles and the political fallout from his debate performance have shaped public discourse about his tenure.

As Biden confronts this serious health diagnosis, the nation watches with concern and support. His resilience in the face of personal and political adversity remains a testament to his decades-long commitment to public service.
