Prominent Nigerians, including key leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), celebrated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on his 78th birthday on November 25, 2024. The occasion was marked by glowing tributes that highlighted his contributions to Nigeria’s political and socio-economic landscape.

Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal praised Atiku as a “true statesman and visionary leader.” In his message, Tambuwal expressed gratitude for Atiku’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and development, stating, “The nation is deeply grateful for your contributions to democracy and nation-building.”

The PDP, in its statement, described Atiku as a “forthright politician” and “global statesman” who has consistently advocated for justice, equity, and good governance. The party’s National Publicity Secretary emphasized his role in strengthening democratic principles in Nigeria and beyond.

Ndudi Elumelu, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, also joined in the celebration, lauding Atiku’s resilience and dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians. According to Elumelu, Atiku’s leadership qualities and philanthropic activities have positively impacted millions across the country.

Atiku’s political career spans decades, with notable achievements as Nigeria’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007 and his continued involvement in shaping national discourse. Over the years, he has championed causes such as education, economic empowerment, and regional integration. His most recent bid for the presidency under the PDP ticket in the 2023 elections further cemented his influence in Nigerian politics.

Supporters across the country also used the occasion to celebrate his legacy. Social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory messages, with hashtags trending to honor his birthday. Many described him as a “unifying figure” and a “beacon of hope” for the younger generation.

In his response, Atiku expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. He reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s progress, stating, “I remain devoted to the ideals of democracy and the collective aspirations of our people.”
