Super Eagles

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to deliver thrilling matchups as the final draw has placed Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Group C, alongside Tunisia, South Africa, and Guinea. The tournament, officially scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, will bring together Africa’s best teams in a fierce battle for the continent’s most prestigious football title.

The draw, held by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has produced several intriguing group-stage clashes, with defending champions Ivory Coast set to face Cameroon in Group D.

Nigeria’s Group C Opponents: A Tough but Manageable Challenge

The Super Eagles, three-time AFCON champions, will have to navigate past some formidable opponents in the group stage:

  • Tunisia: A familiar foe, Tunisia eliminated Nigeria in the Round of 16 at AFCON 2021, a loss the Super Eagles will be eager to avenge.
  • South Africa: The Bafana Bafana finished third in AFCON 2023, proving they are a serious contender.
  • Guinea: Known for their physical and fast-paced football, Guinea could be a potential dark horse in the group.

CAF Confirms Match Calendar and Additional Competitions

CAF has approved the full AFCON 2025 match calendar, ensuring a well-structured tournament schedule. The decision follows extensive discussions aimed at maintaining player welfare while delivering high-quality football.

In addition to AFCON, CAF also confirmed schedules for other key continental competitions, including the CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup, and Women’s AFCON qualifiers.

Football Legends Weigh In on Nigeria’s Chances

Former Nigerian internationals Victor Ikpeba and Ifeanyi Udeze have backed the Super Eagles to progress beyond the group stage. They believe Nigeria’s squad depth, combined with recent performances, makes them strong contenders for the title.

With a mix of experienced stars and emerging talents, Nigeria will aim to reclaim the AFCON trophy, last won in 2013. The pressure is on, but the team’s quality and determination could see them go far in Morocco.
