The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the postponement of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), initially scheduled to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The tournament, which features the best domestic league players from across Africa, has been rescheduled for August 2025 due to uncompleted infrastructure in the host nations.

CAF’s decision follows multiple inspections of the facilities in the three East African countries, which revealed delays in the construction and renovation of key venues. In a statement, CAF highlighted its commitment to ensuring a world-class experience for players, fans, and stakeholders. The organization emphasized that the postponement would allow the host nations adequate time to meet the required standards.

The host nations have faced significant challenges, including funding shortages and logistical issues, which have hindered the timely completion of stadiums and training grounds. Reports indicate that CAF has provided technical support to fast-track the projects and ensure they align with international standards.

This postponement marks a setback for African football, as CHAN is a critical platform for showcasing local talent and fostering the growth of domestic leagues. Fans and players alike have expressed disappointment, with many calling for better planning and resource allocation to prevent future disruptions.

Despite the challenges, CAF remains optimistic about the tournament’s success in 2025. The extended timeline is expected to enhance the quality of the competition, providing the host countries an opportunity to deliver an event that meets global expectations. CAF has urged all stakeholders to collaborate in making CHAN 2025 a memorable experience for the African football community.
