CAF's Women Awards

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced its final shortlist for the 2024 Women’s Awards, with Nigeria securing multiple nominations across categories. Leading the charge is Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, nominated for the prestigious Women’s Player of the Year award. This recognition comes as a testament to her stellar performances for both Nigeria and her French club, Paris FC, throughout the year.

Nnadozie faces stiff competition in the category from Zambia’s Barbara Banda, Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga, and the Moroccan duo Fatima Tagnaout and Rosella Ayane. The shortlist celebrates the finest talent in African women’s football, spotlighting their impact on the continent and beyond.

Adding to Nigeria’s accolades, Edo Queens, a rising force in African club football, earned a nomination for the Women’s Club of the Year award. This comes after their impressive performances in continental tournaments, showcasing the growing strength of women’s football in Nigeria.

The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s national women’s team, also received a nod for Women’s National Team of the Year, underscoring their continued dominance on the African stage. The team’s exploits in major tournaments, including their consistent appearances in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, have cemented their reputation as one of the best sides in Africa.

Other highlights of the CAF Women’s Awards 2024 include:

  1. Young Player of the Year: Recognizing emerging talents across the continent.
  2. Coach of the Year: Celebrating outstanding leadership and tactical brilliance in African women’s football.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe remarked, “This year’s nominees represent the incredible strides made in African women’s football. Their dedication and excellence continue to inspire millions across the continent.”

The winners will be announced at a grand ceremony in Marrakesh, Morocco, on December 11, 2024. With Nigeria’s strong representation, fans and analysts alike will watch closely to see if the country can claim multiple honors on the big stage.
