Nigeria’s Flying Eagles delivered a commanding performance in Abidjan, securing a 3-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire in an international friendly as part of their preparations for the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The match, played at the Stade Robert Champroux, saw the Nigerian side dominate proceedings, showcasing their attacking prowess and defensive solidity. The victory boosts their confidence ahead of the tournament, where they aim to reclaim continental glory.

Match Highlights

The Flying Eagles started the match on the front foot, pressing high and dictating the tempo. Their efforts paid off early when Raphael Ayodeji opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Côte d’Ivoire responded with a brief spell of pressure but was unable to break through Nigeria’s organized defense.

In the second half, the Flying Eagles doubled their lead through Azeez Oseni, who converted a brilliant team move. Côte d’Ivoire pulled one back with a late penalty, but Nigeria sealed the victory when Chijioke Anigboso capitalized on a defensive error to make it 3-1.

Clinton Jephta Declares AFCON Ambition

Following the match, Flying Eagles winger Clinton Jephta expressed confidence in the team’s ability to win the U-20 AFCON title. The forward, who has been in exceptional form, emphasized that the squad is focused on bringing the trophy back to Nigeria.

“We are not just here to participate—we want to become champions. The team is working hard, and we believe we have what it takes to lift the U-20 AFCON trophy,” Jephta stated in an interview.

Flying Eagles’ Road to AFCON

The Flying Eagles’ recent performances indicate that they are one of the teams to watch at the upcoming U-20 AFCON. Under the guidance of coach Ladan Bosso, the squad has been refining their tactics, fitness, and team chemistry to ensure they compete at the highest level.

With a strong attacking unit and a disciplined defense, Nigeria’s U-20 team looks well-prepared to challenge for continental supremacy. Their dominant victory over Côte d’Ivoire serves as a warning to other AFCON contenders, reinforcing their status as one of the tournament favorites.

As the tournament approaches, Nigerian fans eagerly anticipate whether the Flying Eagles can translate their impressive form into championship success and add another AFCON title to their rich history.
