Pep Guardiola has issued a heartfelt apology after losing his temper and ripping headphones off a cameraman following Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday.
What Happened at St James’ Park
Frustrated by a denied penalty and a tight offside call, Guardiola stormed onto the pitch at full-time. He approached a broadcaster, pulled the headphones from his head, and shouted directly into his ear.
Guardiola: “I’m Embarrassed and Ashamed”
Speaking on Monday, the City boss didn’t hold back:
“I apologised straight away. When I watched it back, I felt terrible embarrassed and ashamed. That’s not who I want to be.”
He added: “After 1,000 games, I’m still not perfect. My passion to defend my team sometimes makes me cross the line.”
Tempers Flared All Round
- Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had to be guided down the tunnel
- Newcastle’s Joelinton was held back by manager Eddie Howe
- Guardiola exchanged words with captain Bruno Guimarães — but insists it’s all respect
“I’m emotional. I talk with my hands,” Pep laughed. “Bruno and I are fine we always have a good relationship.”
City remain in the title race despite the defeat, but Guardiola’s moment of madness has dominated headlines this week.
