The dust has settled at Lagos’ Mobolaji Johnson Arena, but the celebrations are just beginning! Ikorodu City Football Academy stormed to victory in the 2025 1XCup tournament.

They secured the title and a massive (N10 million) after a gritty 1-0 final victory over ISAGT FC.

The decisive goal came courtesy of Emmanuel Okeh, whose lone strike sealed Ikorodu City’s phenomenal run. They went unbeaten throughout the tournament, showcasing total domination and tactical superiority against all competitors.

While they fell short of the trophy, runners-up ISAGT FC still earned a substantial prize of (N5 million).

Prizes Delivered: Commendation for Timely Payout

The total prize money for the tournament was a substantial (N20 million). Tournament mastermind, former Super Eagles star Engr Waidi Akanni, praised the title sponsor for their commitment. Akanni stated,

“1XBET delivered BIG, (N20M)total, every kobo paid out!”

This crucial, timely delivery of prizes is a significant boost for the grassroots football ecosystem.

Both the champions and the runners-up received their cash prizes immediately. Furthermore, every individual star who earned recognition was rewarded promptly, highlighting the professionalism of the tournament organization.

Award Roll Call: Individual Heroes Honored

Several players and coaches stood out for their exceptional performances throughout the competition. These individuals were duly recognized and rewarded with cash prizes of $\text{N300,000}$ each:

  • Top Scorer: Uche Emeribe, who finished the tournament with five goals.
  • Best Keeper: Abdullahi Suleiman, recognized for his outstanding saves and consistency.
  • MVP (Most Valuable Player): Adewale Quadri, rewarded for his leadership and impact on the pitch.
  • Best Coach: Wellington Egor of Ikorodu City FA, whose tactics guided his team to an unbeaten record.

The collective excellence of the champions was also recognized, with Ikorodu City FA being named the Team of the Tournament. Another squad, Dosu Joseph FC, was named the Highlight Squad for their exciting play.

Fans Make the Tournament Electric

Engr Waidi Akanni made sure to salute the passionate and roaring crowds. He described the atmosphere at Thursday’s final as nothing short of “Electric!” The massive turnout underscores the strong community engagement and deep enthusiasm for grassroots football development in Lagos. The success of the tournament is a victory for the fans just as much as it is for the winning team.

Looking Ahead to 2026

With the 2025 tournament concluded, preparation for the 2026 1XCup is already kicking off. Organizers have signaled their intent to make the next edition even bigger and bolder.

The consistent success and growing profile of this tournament confirm that grassroots football dreams are not just alive, but thriving across Nigeria.

The question now shifts to the future: Which academy has the grit and talent to challenge Ikorodu City FA next year?

What makes a tournament like the 1XCup essential for discovering talent at the grassroots level?
