Ons Jabeur

Former world number two Ons Jabeur is stepping back from the women’s tennis tour.

The 30-year-old Tunisian shared her decision, saying,

“It’s time to breathe, heal, and rediscover the joy of living.”

She pulled out of her first-round match at Wimbledon last week due to breathing issues during the tournament’s warmest opening day ever.

Jabeur reached the finals there in 2022 and 2023 but has struggled with injuries lately, dropping to her current ranking of 71.

Struggles On and Off the Court

In a social media post, Jabeur opened up about facing tough challenges over the past two years.

She admitted she hasn’t felt happy playing tennis for a while.

In 2022, she made history as the first woman since Serena Williams to reach both the Wimbledon and US Open finals in one year.

Despite this, she couldn’t claim the title, missing the chance to become the first African or Arab woman to win a Grand Slam in the professional era.

Gratitude to Fans

Known for her popularity on the tour, Jabeur thanked her supporters.

“I’ll stay connected with you, even while I’m away from the court,” she wrote.

Her fans have cheered her through highs and lows, and she values their encouragement as she takes this break to focus on her well-being.
