Kirsty Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), convened an executive board meeting on Tuesday. The meeting took place at the organization’s headquarters in Lausanne. This session served as a crucial check-in ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The Winter Games are scheduled to run from February 6 to 22. They will take place across several venues in Lombardy and Northeast Italy.
Updates and Global Context
President Coventry opened the session with a summary of recent progress. She first discussed the ongoing work of the “fit for the future” initiative. She also highlighted her busy travel schedule.
This included a trip to Europe for the European evening of sports in Brussels. The IOC President additionally noted her presence at the Olympic Flame lighting ceremony. She celebrated the subsequent arrival of the flame in Italy a few days prior.
The upcoming Milan Cortina Olympics will face a complex global context. The Games will be held amid ongoing restrictions on most Russian athletes due to the war in Ukraine. Furthermore, the war in Gaza remains a pressing concern for the international community.

The venue plan for the February 6–22 Games is distributed across northern Italy:
