Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna stays Africa’s top table tennis player in the Week 39 ITTF rankings, released September 23, 2025.
The 36-year-old ranks 27th globally with 1,185 points, ahead of Egypt’s Omar Assar (32nd, 930 points), Youssef Abdelaziz (50th, 550 points), and Mohamed Elbeiali (97th, 269 points). Benin’s Abdel-Kader Salifou is fifth in Africa.
Nigerian Men’s Standings
Aruna far outpaces other Nigerians. Matthew Kuti fell to 200th (89 points), Abdulbasit Abdulfatai held at 206th (81 points), and Olajide Omotayo dropped to 212th (78 points). Taiwo Mati, back on the national team, slipped to 223rd (69 points).
Women’s Rankings
Fatimo Bello leads Nigerian women at 120th (189 points). Ajoke Ojomu dropped to 158th (120 points), Aminat Fashola stayed at 183rd (94 points), and Sukurat Aiyelabegan fell to 214th. Egypt’s Hana Goda ranks 25th globally, leading Africa.
Global Top Players
China rules the men’s rankings with Wang Chuqin first (9,425 points) and Lin Shidong second (9,375). Brazil’s Hugo Calderano (3rd, 6,050), Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto (4th, 6,000), and Sweden’s Truls Moregard (5th, 4,455) follow.
For women, China’s Sun Yingsha leads (12,200 points), followed by Wang Manyu (8,250) and Chen Xingtong (6,075).
African Championships Ahead
The ITTF African Championships start October 12 in Tunis. Aruna leads Nigeria’s men with Mati, Omotayo, Kuti, and Abdulfatai.
Ojomu heads the women’s team with Favour Ojo, Aishat Rabiu, Kabirat Ayoola, and Aiyelabegan, aiming for medals and 2026 World Team Championships spots.
