Microsoft’s artificial intelligence rolls out new tools

Microsoft has introduced a range of new tools and services aimed at helping developers modernize existing applications and create smarter ones across various platforms. The company also shared advancements in its artificial intelligence research, focusing on machine learning, speech recognition, and visual recognition technologies. These innovations are designed to enhance users’ quality of life.

“Today, personal assistants are becoming integral in both workplace and home settings, simplifying tasks like answering queries and managing chores such as lighting control and security access,” stated Harry Shum, executive vice president of Microsoft’s AI and Research Group. He added that digital assistants are improving employee productivity through features like audio calendar reminders and traffic updates.

At the Build 2017 developer conference, Microsoft unveiled several new AI capabilities that can be incorporated into everything from online presentations to business database management. CEO Satya Nadella introduced the Cortana Skills Kit, a new Azure service designed to help developers modernize their applications efficiently. Additionally, the company rolled out new AI and Azure services that make it easier for developers to create intelligent applications and leverage Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities with a focus on intelligent cloud and edge computing.

The Cortana Skills Kit enables developers to build bots using Microsoft’s intelligent digital assistant, while the Azure IoT Edge brings machine learning and advanced features to IoT devices. Furthermore, the introduction of the Microsoft Bot Framework allows for innovative conversational interactions with AI.

One notable application of these advancements is the PowerPoint presentation translator, which utilizes Microsoft’s Translation APIs to offer real-time translations in multiple languages, including Kiswahili, during presentations.
