Treatment for Breast Cancer

An Israeli startup called Ibex Medical Analytics has developed a new tool that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help doctors find the best treatment for breast cancer patients.

This tool, called the Galen Breast HER2 platform, helps pathologists (specialist doctors who study disease) by accurately identifying how much of the protein HER2 is present in breast cancer cells. HER2 is an important protein because it helps cancer cells grow, and knowing how much of it is in the body can help doctors choose the right treatment for each patient.

How the AI Tool Works

The Galen Breast HER2 platform works by using AI to examine samples of cancer tissue under a microscope. The AI identifies the cancer cells and calculates the HER2 score.

This score helps doctors figure out how aggressive the cancer is and what kind of treatment will work best. The results from the AI are then shown to the pathologist, who can make a final decision about the patient’s treatment plan.

The Benefits of AI in Diagnosing Breast Cancer

Traditionally, pathologists look at tissue samples by eye to see how much HER2 is present. But because different doctors might see different things, the results can vary.

With the Galen Breast HER2 platform, AI makes the process more reliable by giving a precise score. It puts the HER2 levels into four categories, making it easier for pathologists to make decisions about treatment.

Collaborations and Advancements

This technology was created by Ibex with the help of AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo, two well-known pharmaceutical companies. This AI system doesn’t just check for HER2; it can also identify different types of breast cancer and detect over 50 types of cancer features that could be harmful or harmless.

It even helps measure other important breast cancer markers like Ki-67, ER, and PR, which are important for understanding how fast cancer is growing and how best to treat it.

Similar News and the Impact on Breast Cancer Treatment

The use of AI in cancer treatment is growing, and this development is part of a larger trend in healthcare. Other companies and researchers are also using AI to diagnose cancer more accurately and quickly.

For example, some hospitals are testing AI systems that can analyze X-rays and other scans to detect cancer early. These tools help doctors make faster and better decisions, which is especially important for diseases like breast cancer where early treatment can save lives.

In the future, these AI tools may become common in hospitals, making cancer treatment more personalized and effective for patients everywhere.

This AI-driven approach is not only improving diagnosis but also helping doctors choose treatments that are more likely to work for each patient based on their unique condition.
