The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has partnered with TikTok and Data Science Nigeria to bolster online safety measures and promote digital literacy across Nigeria. This initiative aligns with the second phase of TikTok’s ongoing digital safety campaign, aimed at equipping users with tools and knowledge to navigate the digital world responsibly.

During the program’s launch, TikTok reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive online environment, particularly in Nigeria, one of its largest markets in Africa. The collaboration with NITDA and Data Science Nigeria will emphasize creating awareness about privacy settings, recognizing cyberbullying, and avoiding misinformation.

NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, highlighted the critical need for robust digital safety frameworks as internet penetration deepens across Nigeria. He commended TikTok for taking proactive steps to educate users, especially young Nigerians, on safe online practices.

The initiative features workshops, webinars, and interactive sessions aimed at empowering users with practical skills for online safety. Teachers, parents, and young content creators are among the primary beneficiaries, ensuring that safety education reaches diverse demographics.

This partnership also comes at a time when concerns over data privacy and harmful online behaviors are rising globally. TikTok, alongside its partners, aims to address these concerns through transparency, community guidelines, and advanced moderation tools.

As Nigeria’s digital economy continues to expand, initiatives like these are pivotal in ensuring a safe and productive online space for its citizens.
