Permanent Secretary

Ambassador Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa Aduda has officially taken over as the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence. The handover ceremony, which marked the transition from the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, took place on January 2, 2025. Aduda pledged to build on his predecessor’s achievements and advance the ministry’s strategic objectives.

The ceremony, held at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja, was attended by top government officials, military leaders, and staff of the ministry. Dr. Kana, who served with distinction during his tenure, expressed confidence in Aduda’s ability to lead the ministry effectively, emphasizing the importance of continuity in advancing Nigeria’s defense goals.

In his inaugural remarks, Ambassador Aduda outlined his vision to move the ministry to the next level, focusing on efficiency, collaboration, and modernization. He stressed the importance of fostering strong partnerships between the ministry and the Nigerian Armed Forces to address emerging security challenges. Aduda also highlighted the need for innovation and the adoption of global best practices in defense administration.

Before his appointment, Ambassador Aduda served in various high-profile capacities, including as a diplomat and a key figure in international relations. His wealth of experience, particularly in managing complex administrative and diplomatic issues, positions him as a strong leader for the Ministry of Defence.

Aduda reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s defense infrastructure and capabilities. He expressed his determination to ensure that the ministry continues to support the military in maintaining the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Aduda also called for a collective effort from all stakeholders in achieving these objectives.

The transition comes at a time when Nigeria faces significant security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, and terrorism. Aduda’s leadership will play a crucial role in addressing these issues while fostering reforms to strengthen the ministry’s operations. Observers believe his appointment signals a renewed focus on achieving sustainable security solutions for the country.

As Aduda takes the reins at the Ministry of Defence, expectations are high that his leadership will contribute to the development of a robust and responsive defense system, ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.
