Confusion as SDP Members Defect to PDP in Oyo, Party Denies Claims

Political tensions are rising in Oyo State following reports that hundreds of Social Democratic Party (SDP) members have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Multiple sources indicate that a group of SDP members, led by a party aspirant, officially switched allegiance to the PDP in Oluyole Local Government Area. However, the SDP has denied losing members, creating a conflicting narrative about the state of the party.

Reports suggest that a chieftain of the PDP, identified as Ogunsola, played a key role in facilitating the defection. During a gathering where the defectors were received, PDP leaders reportedly assured them of full integration and participation in the party’s activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. Some defectors cited a lack of direction within the SDP as a reason for their move, while others expressed confidence in the PDP’s leadership in Oyo State.

In contrast, the SDP has rejected these claims, maintaining that the party remains intact and has not lost any significant number of members. The party leadership dismissed the reports as political propaganda aimed at weakening its structure in the state. An SDP representative insisted that the party is focused on strengthening its base and preparing for upcoming elections.

The conflicting statements from both parties highlight the political maneuvering ahead of the next electoral cycle in Oyo State. As the 2027 elections draw closer, further realignments and defections are expected across party lines, shaping the state’s political landscape.
