Governor Obaseki Hands Over to Okpebholo

In a significant transition of power in Edo State, outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki officially handed over leadership to his successor, Senator Monday Okpebholo. This transfer marks a new chapter for the state, as Okpebholo takes office with a vision focused on inclusive development and social progress for all Edo citizens. In his final official act, Obaseki also granted pardons to 10 inmates across the state’s correctional facilities, a decision intended to emphasize rehabilitation and second chances for individuals who have shown good behavior while incarcerated.

The handover ceremony, held in Benin City on November 12, saw both leaders speak on the importance of continuity and progress for Edo State. Okpebholo, in his inaugural address, emphasized his commitment to promoting development across all sectors, from infrastructure to social welfare. His plans include enhancing public services, improving education, and fostering economic growth to benefit all residents, particularly in rural areas. The incoming governor promised to build upon Obaseki’s initiatives, aiming to create a more prosperous and inclusive Edo State.

As his last official duty, Obaseki issued pardons for 10 inmates, underscoring the state’s commitment to justice reform and rehabilitation. This move aligns with broader efforts to provide second chances to those who have demonstrated genuine efforts at reform. State officials noted that the pardoned inmates had displayed positive behavior and a commitment to reintegration, supporting Obaseki’s belief that they could now contribute meaningfully to society.

Okpebholo’s inauguration and Obaseki’s departure mark a period of anticipated change and development for Edo. With Okpebholo pledging to prioritize transparency, innovation, and inclusivity, citizens are hopeful that the new administration will continue the momentum of progress achieved during Obaseki’s tenure. As he begins his term, Okpebholo’s leadership will be closely watched for initiatives that impact both urban and rural communities across the state .
