Acting Accountant

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF). The announcement was made on Monday, December 11, 2024, through a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF). This appointment follows the completion of the tenure of the previous Accountant-General, Mr. Oluwatoyin Madein.

Dr. Ogunjimi brings a wealth of experience to the role. She is an accomplished professional in public financial management, with a career spanning over three decades in the civil service. Before her appointment, she served as a Director in the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), where she oversaw critical financial operations. Ogunjimi holds a doctorate degree in Accounting and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

The OSGF emphasized that her appointment aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public finance management. The administration has pledged to prioritize professionalism in the management of the nation’s treasury.

Ogunjimi is expected to implement key financial reforms, particularly in advancing the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), and other initiatives aimed at curbing corruption and ensuring fiscal prudence. These measures are seen as pivotal in stabilizing Nigeria’s economy and restoring public trust in financial institutions.

Dr. Ogunjimi’s tenure begins immediately, and she will hold the position in an acting capacity pending the substantive appointment of an Accountant-General. Her appointment has been widely acknowledged as a strategic move in bolstering Nigeria’s financial management systems.

The role of the Accountant-General of the Federation is central to the management of government funds and financial reporting. With Dr. Ogunjimi at the helm, stakeholders anticipate enhanced financial accountability and improved efficiency in the nation’s financial operations.
