Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been drawn against Tunisia in the group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, setting up a highly anticipated clash. The draw, which also saw defending champions Ivory Coast paired with Cameroon, has sparked discussions among football analysts and fans.

Former Super Eagles star and football legend, Austin Okocha, described Nigeria’s draw as unfortunate, emphasizing that the team will have to be at its best to progress. He noted that while Nigeria has a strong squad, facing Tunisia, a disciplined and tactical team, presents a significant challenge. Okocha highlighted the need for the Super Eagles to improve their consistency and capitalize on goal-scoring opportunities.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s head coach, José Peseiro, expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to navigate the group stage successfully. He emphasized the importance of adequate preparation and maintaining focus ahead of the tournament. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has also assured fans that the team will undergo intensive training to ensure peak performance at AFCON 2025.

Beyond the AFCON draw, the Super Eagles’ technical team remains focused on the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Assistant coach Finidi George confirmed that while the AFCON remains a priority, the team is also strategizing for crucial World Cup qualifying matches. He stressed that maintaining a strong squad rotation and fitness levels will be key to achieving success in both competitions.

As excitement builds ahead of the continental tournament, Nigerian football enthusiasts remain hopeful that the Super Eagles will rise to the challenge and make a deep run in the competition. The team’s performances in the coming months will be closely watched as they prepare for a tough but promising AFCON 2025 campaign.
