Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro left the hospital on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, just one day after admission for symptoms including vomiting, dizziness, and low blood pressure.

His medical team confirmed his improved condition in a statement from DF Star Hospital in Brasilia. He will undergo ongoing monitoring to ensure continued health.

Skin Lesions and Cancer Diagnosis

Bolsonaro visited the hospital on Sunday for the removal of skin lesions. Tests revealed squamous cell carcinoma in two of them, an early-stage skin cancer.

Doctor Claudio Birolini explained to reporters, “The lesions were treated by excision, but routine check-ups are necessary to confirm complete removal and prevent new occurrences.”

Ongoing Medical Follow-Up

The hospital emphasized that while Bolsonaro’s immediate symptoms have resolved, he requires regular evaluations. This follows his history of health issues, including intestinal problems from a 2018 stabbing during his campaign, which led to multiple surgeries.

Legal Battles Continue

Bolsonaro’s discharge occurs amid major legal challenges. Last week, Brazil’s Supreme Court sentenced him to 27 years and three months in prison for his alleged involvement in a coup plot after losing the 2022 election.

He has been under house arrest since August, accused of seeking influence from U.S. President Donald Trump on court decisions.

Public and Political Context

The former president’s health scare has drawn attention from supporters, who see it as linked to past traumas and current stress.

His 2019-2022 presidency was marked by controversies on environment, health, and politics. Investigations into corruption and election interference persist post-term.

Implications for Brazilian Politics

Bolsonaro remains a key figure in Brazil’s right-wing opposition. His health and legal issues could affect his influence. Supporters claim political persecution, while critics demand accountability for threats to democracy.
