On September 29, 2025, Zhimin Qian, a 45-year-old Chinese woman, pleaded guilty in a London court. She ran a massive fraud, stealing billions from 128,000 Chinese victims between 2014 and 2017.

Record Seizure

UK police seized 61,000 bitcoins, worth over £5 billion, from Qian’s home in 2018. It’s the largest crypto recovery ever, said the Metropolitan Police.

Court Details

At Southwark Crown Court, Qian admitted to illegally holding crypto from 2017 to 2024. Her lawyer, Roger Sahota, said she aims to repay victims with the seized funds.

Accomplice Charged

Seng Hok Ling, 47, from Malaysia, also pleaded guilty to laundering Qian’s money. Authorities seek £16.2 million from him, with sentencing on November 10.

Global Investigation

Detective Sergeant Isabella Grotto led the seven-year probe with global partners. Qian used fake IDs to hide in the UK until her arrest.

Crypto Crime Wave

Crypto hides illegal funds, said prosecutor Robin Weyell. Recent cases include a $225M U.S. seizure and South Korea’s $40B fraud conviction in 2025.

Victim Relief

Qian’s plea could lead to victim payouts. Her seized bitcoins cover losses since 2017, her lawyer noted.

Why It Matters

This case shows crypto’s role in fraud and law enforcement’s power to track it. It’s a major win against global scams.

What’s Next

Qian and Ling face sentencing in November 2025. The UK plans stricter laws to seize criminal digital assets.
