Ceasefire

Germany’s Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, has declared a top priority for the ongoing Gaza conflict. He stated that the immediate and complete implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement is critical.

Speaking in Berlin on Tuesday, Wadephul outlined the urgent steps required. Specifically, he called for the handover of all hostage remains. Additionally, he emphasized the need for sustained improvement in distributing humanitarian aid to the beleaguered territory.

Disarming Hamas is “Crystal Clear”

The German diplomat made these remarks alongside his Egyptian counterpart, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Wadephul praised Cairo for its “intensive and fruitful mediation efforts” in navigating the crisis.

Addressing the future governance of the enclave, Wadephul was emphatic. He stated that stability relies on the disarmament of Hamas.

Furthermore, he stated unequivocally that the group’s rule must come to an end. He described this position as “crystal clear” for the international community.

A Firm Message to Israel

Wadephul also directed a firm message to the Israeli government. He called for strict adherence to the ceasefire terms. Moreover, he urged authorities to facilitate the entry of even greater volumes of humanitarian aid.

He confirmed that he has already conveyed these expectations directly to Israeli interlocutors.

Strengthening a Strategic Partnership

Minister Abdelatty reciprocated the sentiments regarding bilateral cooperation. He emphasized the deep coordination between Egypt and Germany.

Finally, he underscored Egypt’s pivotal role. He highlighted the nation not only as a stabilizing force in the Middle East but also as a strategic gateway to the African continent.
