President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to leading Africa’s artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, following a high-profile meeting with Google CEO Sundar Pichai in Paris. The discussion centered on expanding AI-driven solutions, fostering digital innovation, and leveraging technology for Nigeria’s economic growth.

During the meeting, Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s potential to become a global hub for AI and digital technology. He emphasized the need for strategic partnerships that will enhance technological development, digital skills acquisition, and infrastructure expansion. According to him, Nigeria is poised to take a leadership role in AI adoption and innovation in Africa.

Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai acknowledged Nigeria’s growing digital economy and assured Tinubu of Google’s commitment to supporting AI development and skills training in the country. Pichai noted that Nigeria remains a key market in Africa, and Google will continue investing in digital skills programs, infrastructure projects, and AI research to boost innovation.

Tinubu, speaking at the meeting, reiterated that AI is no longer a futuristic concept but a present reality that nations must embrace to stay competitive. He called on global tech leaders to collaborate with Nigeria in building an inclusive digital ecosystem that benefits both public and private sectors.

The engagement aligns with Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda, which includes the promotion of AI policies, investment in digital infrastructure, and training for young professionals. Tinubu assured Google’s leadership that his administration is committed to creating an enabling environment for technological growth through regulatory support and investment incentives.

Google has been actively involved in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem, launching initiatives such as the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program and investing in AI research through its AI Research Center in Accra, Ghana. The tech giant’s increased focus on Nigeria signals a commitment to driving technological advancements and positioning the country as a leading digital economy in Africa.

As part of Nigeria’s efforts to harness AI, Tinubu called for stronger collaboration between the government and private sector, emphasizing that AI and digital technology must be accessible to all citizens. He noted that AI applications in health, agriculture, finance, and education could drive significant economic benefits and improve service delivery across multiple sectors.

The meeting also explored potential partnerships between Google and Nigerian institutions to develop AI-driven solutions tailored to local challenges. Tinubu stressed the importance of knowledge transfer and innovation hubs that will empower young Nigerians with critical AI and digital skills.

Following the discussion, both parties expressed optimism about future collaborations that will shape Nigeria’s AI landscape. Tinubu’s administration has been proactive in engaging global tech leaders, with this latest meeting reinforcing Nigeria’s position as an emerging powerhouse in digital innovation.

The discussion with Google’s CEO marks a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy and aligning the country with global AI trends. As Nigeria continues to build its technological capabilities, strategic partnerships with major players like Google are expected to drive long-term economic growth and digital transformation.
