A tourist boat carrying 29 people capsized off Egypt’s Red Sea coast, leaving 17 individuals missing, according to Egyptian authorities. The vessel, which was on a recreational voyage, reportedly sank near the resort city of Hurghada. Eleven survivors have been rescued, while one body has been recovered, with search operations ongoing to locate the missing.

Officials stated that rough weather conditions, including high waves, contributed to the tragedy. Eyewitness accounts suggest the boat faced challenges maintaining stability as the weather deteriorated. Emergency teams, including navy divers, are involved in the rescue and recovery mission, aided by neighboring vessels and aircraft.

The incident raises concerns over safety regulations for tourist activities in the region, a popular destination for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. Authorities are investigating whether the boat was adequately equipped to handle adverse conditions.

The Red Sea’s tourist industry, a vital source of revenue for Egypt, has seen increased safety scrutiny following similar accidents in recent years. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by unpredictable sea conditions and the importance of adherence to safety protocols.

As families of the missing await updates, the government has pledged a thorough investigation and improved enforcement of maritime safety standards to prevent future occurrences.
