BOBI

Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine reports that security forces assaulted him and his campaign team. The former musician says the attack occurred while he was campaigning in the northern part of the country.

Wine shared details of the incident on the social media platform X late Saturday. He described a violent scene in the city of Gulu. According to his posts, security operatives beat him, his aides, and his supporters.

Evidence of Chaos and Vandalism

To support his claims, Wine posted photos and videos of the event. The footage depicts chaotic scenes of violence. He noted that some of the security operatives were not wearing uniforms during the attack.

Furthermore, the opposition leader claimed that these forces vandalized his campaign’s sound system.

A Pattern of Violence

Wine insists that this was not an isolated incident. He alleged that the military had previously attacked his team’s office in Gulu earlier in the week. During that raid, they reportedly vandalized the property.

The violence has had serious consequences. Reports indicate that several people suffered injuries, and some victims required immediate hospital treatment.

Rising Election Tensions

These violent events mark a significant escalation in tension. Uganda is preparing for a presidential election scheduled for January 15, 2026. This poll represents Bobi Wine’s second attempt to unseat the incumbent, President Yoweri Museveni.

Museveni, who is 81 years old, is currently seeking a sixth term in office. He has ruled Uganda since 1986 and is widely characterized as a dictator.
