The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has introduced a robust roadmap to handle the massive surge in year-end passenger traffic. Specifically, this plan aims to ensure a smooth and secure experience across all domestic and international terminals. By using advanced traffic forecasting and technical personnel, FAAN is preparing for significant passenger pressure.

Under the leadership of Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the authority is focusing on real-time solutions. Consequently, travelers can expect better queue management and faster processing times during this peak period.

Strategic Congestion Management

To address potential bottlenecks, FAAN has initiated a multi-pronged operational strategy. This includes the deployment of a dedicated augmentation team. These officials, easily identifiable in branded shirts and jackets, will provide real-time information and support at critical airport touchpoints.

Key measures include:

  • Inter-Agency Collaboration: High-level talks with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and Customs (NCS) to minimize delays.
  • Enhanced Security: Deployment of over 80 additional personnel to manage crowds and vehicular traffic.
  • Infrastructure Optimization: Maximizing current space while construction on the new terminal continues.

Zero Tolerance for Unethical Practices

FAAN is also taking a firm stance against staff misconduct and passenger harassment. According to Mr. Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs, the authority has a zero-tolerance policy for solicitation or unofficial payments.

To empower passengers, FAAN has introduced:

  • Direct Reporting: Prominent QR codes at airports allow travelers to report issues directly to a response team in real-time.
  • Active Surveillance: Coordination with agency supervisors to enforce strict disciplinary measures for any unethical behavior.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Advising passengers to arrive early and firmly decline any requests for unofficial fees.

Maintaining Operational Continuity

Despite ongoing construction projects, FAAN ensures that all domestic terminals will maintain 24/7 operational shifts. Additionally, technical teams are continuously monitoring facility systems, such as air conditioning (HVAC), to provide a conducive environment for travelers.

While the NCAA regulates airline-induced delays, FAAN remains focused on “airport-side” support. This ensures that basic amenities are available and communication between passengers and airlines stays clear during flight disruptions.
