Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez traveled to Mauritania on Wednesday, He met with President Mohamed Ould Ghazouni to discuss migration, trade, and safety.

Mauritania deals with many boats heading to Spain’s Canary Islands, Last year, more than 25,000 people left irregularly.

Sánchez highlighted the importance of safe migration, He said it helps Spain’s economy grow.

His government is working with West African countries to offer legal migration options.

Building Stronger Bonds

At a press event in Nouakchott, Sánchez praised Mauritania’s role. “The EU values its position,” he noted.

“Spain will keep supporting its goals.” This visit follows recent unrest in Spain’s Murcia region.

Last week, an attack on an older man in Torre Pacheco stirred anti-immigrant feelings. Sánchez aims to ease tensions through this partnership.

Boosting Trade and Security

Sánchez also wants to grow trade and investment with Mauritania. He plans to fight terrorism and crime networks in the region.

This marks his third trip there in 18 months. Each visit strengthens their connection. The talks focus on creating stable solutions for both sides.
